The Brass Sales Agent app is a user acquisition product designed to help agents onboard new businesses on the field. The agent app aims to reach less tech-savvy customers, reinforce user acquisition strategy, and empower agents to earn commission on each successful business onboarding.

Background

Brass seeks to dominate the MSME market in Africa, starting with Lagos. They have successfully built and launched a suite of fantastic business tools from invoicing, cashflow, efficient current account, swift cards, payment management, business admin management etc.

However, placing this tool in the hands of serious businesses who aren't tech savvy needed a fusion of agent banking and an app powerful enough for agents to showcase Brass and onboard businesses on the spot. Product Ideation and Design of the Brass Sales Agent App was the task I executed. Within one month of launch, user acquisition increased by over 30% for Brass.

Lagos and the African Market house clusters of businesses generating over 100,000 monthly revenue, yet run by non-tech savvy business owners. To bank the unbanked and place a powerful business tool in the hands of these business owners, you need more than ads.

50% of the SMEs in Nigeria are managed by less (& Non-) tech savvy people. Fintechs like Brass has a challenge getting these businesses to come to Brass.

Survey Highlights

To gain insights into the experiences and sentiments of the target audience, I conducted a survey involving 120 participants. This diverse group included small and medium-sized business owners, senior executives, and aspiring entrepreneurs.

  • Limited exposure to information about digital/neo banks has led to a lack of trust among 55% of participants. In contrast, traditional banks, with their human connection in the onboarding process, have gained the trust of 96% of the participants who feel safer entrusting their money to them.
  • 81% mentioned they encounter a frustrating situation where agents from the traditional banks initiate the account creation process, but upon visiting the bank, are informed that their account setup remains incomplete.
  • The application process for traditional banks often involves unclear or undisclosed documentation requirements, according to 70% of respondents. This lack of clarity prolongs the application process.
  • An overwhelming 80% of respondents reported that sales agents from traditional banks would demand documents and promise to set up their accounts, only to never return and complete the process.
  • While 62% of individuals express their frustration with traditional banks, they are uncertain about the better alternative to pursue. They desire a different banking experience but are unsure which option would meet their needs.
